Principal’s Report

November 16, 2011 PAC Meeting

Things having been progressing well the past month and our staff is doing a great
job challenging our students to do their best. Due to the current job action the
reporting of student progress has been compromised. Teachers should be
informing students about their academic performance to date‐‐ this information is
not currently being shared with me. Parents and guardians should make contact
with your child's teachers if you would like updated information on their academic
performance. We do have some school time allotted for parent‐teacher interviews
November 23 and 24 (1:45‐3:05 pm) . Contact information is included in the PHSS
November Newsletter, which will be included with the report cards this Friday. If
students do not bring these home, please contact the school.

I continue to get into classes regularly so I have a fairly good idea of students who
are having challenges. I am concerned with students with a high number of
absences. We do need the support of parents to ensure that students attend
regularly‐‐ please contact the school if your son/daughter is absent so we know
when students have legitimate absences.

Our fall sports programs are coming to a close and the volleyball standards are now
being replaced with basketball hoops and badminton nets. Thanks to Mr. Mocellin
for coaching the Junior and Senior Girls' Volleyball teams. They had a lot of fun and
developed some excellent skills as the season progressed. Thanks also to Mike Cyr
for working with our Junior Rugby Program.

Our whole school participated in a Terry Fox Run on November 3rd. The run was a
big success but donations collected were minimal.

Our Student Council is working hard to provide a variety of activities at PHSS. They
have attended We Day, in Vancouver, they have had a Student Council Planning
Retreat, at the Pender Harbour Golf Club, and they are organizing a Masquerade
Dance (November 24th). Thanks to Mrs. deJong and Mrs. Dornbierer for working
with this years' Student Council.

I also want to thank Ms. MacInnes for her tireless work with the band and choir, in
preparing for our Remembrance Day Assembly. Thanks to the choir, band, Elizabeth
Rowlands (who read In Flanders Fields) and the Pender Pipe Band for making our
assembly memorable.

Our Hot Breakfast Program , sponsored by the Community School, is ongoing
(Monday, Thursday & Friday) and the Hot Lunch Program, Wednesdays, continues
to be a big hit. Thank you to all involved.

As winter approaches, when inclement weather is a concern for student safety,
CKAY FM (91.7) will provide information regarding school closures and
transportation by 7:00 am. This information should also be posted on the SD46
website www.sd46.bc.ca .
